The 1 September 2016 marked the publication of the revised and updated Code of Practice for the Governance of State Bodies. Published by Minister for Finance, Public Expenditure and Reform, Paschal Donohoe TD, the code was aimed at strengthening the underlying principles of good governance: accountability, transparency, probity and a focus on the long-term sustainable success of the organisation.
With two years since the codes official release this event will review the performance of standards that the code sets for good governance within regulatory, commercial and non-commercial State bodies.
With the recent exposures at State Board level, highlighting the shortcomings and failure to adhere to statutory responsibilities, it has never been more important to reflect on best practice and consider the measure set by State Bodies in terms of governance, risk, compliance, values and culture. Strengthening the code by maintaining transparency and rebuilding trust where failings have occurred.
